There is a strong argument that in some cases we need to put the health of the planet ahead of our own health if we want to avoid the even greater risks of climate change. Some of these are:
1. Bottled water: Although this may be healthier than tap water the cost to the earth is massive compared to tap water which can be filtered.
2. Locally grown food: Whilst organic food is best for your health - if you have to choose between organic foods flown in from abroad or locally grown foods - choosing the locally grown foods will reduce the food miles considerably.
3. Flights: This is a tough one; flying is arguably one of the most environmentally damaging things you can do. The viability of flying regularly is questionable now and certainly will be in the future. What we suggest is: a) Fly to Nairobi and then take the train to Mombasa. (this is overnight rather than a one hour flight). To show our commitment to this option we will include a free transfer from Mombassa to Wildfitness if you choose this option. b) Do one long haul holiday per year and choose to come on the longer courses rather than the shorter courses - the longer courses are also much deeper experiences. c) Neutralise your flights - but realise that 'carbon neutralising' in itself may not be enough to prevent global warming, a reduction in our resource usage is also necessary. www.carbonneutral.com/shop
4. Bike, walk and run whenever you can instead of using other forms of transport. And workout outdoors rather than in the gym!
