Shoes soften the impact on your joints...
We have been running around for our entire evolutionary history without shoes. Why do we suddenly need high tech padding now? If you were told to run across a car park bare foot would you strike with your heels first? Naturally we run on the balls of our feet and this takes the impact off our joints and allows us to run injury free.
Long low intensity training burns more fat…
Long low intensity workouts ‘burn’ a higher percentage of fat compared to carbohydrate than higher intensity workouts. However, because high intensity workouts use up a lot more energy in total, the actual amount of fat 'burnt' is much higher: plus you produce more human growth hormone, which is the hormone that builds muscle and burns fat. Just look at any power athlete compared to an endurance athlete. High intensity workouts are the most efficient way to get lean.
The more and harder I train the leaner I will get…
Intelligent training gets better results that just 'more' training. Specifically doing high intensity training with proper technique and with proper rest periods between training sessions will always get better results than training every day.
Calorie theory: If daily exercise is less than food intake I will put on weight...
If this was true then how can body builders get so lean whilst only expending 300 calories in their workouts but eating around 5000 calories per day? The answer lies in our hormonal response to exercise and the effect it has on our metabolism. Wildfitness focuses on creating in you a wild metabolism, not thinking about calories.
Calorie theory: All calories are created equal…
Fats, proteins and carbohydrates are broken down and digested via different mechanisms and biochemical pathways. The hormonal response to 1,000 calories of carbohydrate is very different to the hormonal response to 1,000 calories of fat or protein. The body is made from fats and proteins where as carbohydrates are used for fuel. Therefore unless you are an endurance athlete your body has a greater need for fat/protein than carbohydrate and any excess will be stored as body fat.
A low cholesterol diet will give me low blood cholesterol…
1. Cholesterol is absorbed in the lymph so blood cholesterol is not related to dietary intake of cholesterol.
2. Blood cholesterol is manufactured by the liver from carbohydrates. So low carbohydrate diets will reduce blood cholesterol.
Saturated fat causes cancer and obesity…
This is true if you don't have a healthy digestive system - or if you eat non - organic meats. We have evolved on eating animal products (the hunter-gatherer diet), but we need to have a 'wild' body to ensure we can cope with this diet. If you have problems digesting meat you may need to go on the primate (mostly vegetarian) diet temporarily while strengthening your digestive system.
