We can gain the most accurate insights into what our ideal diet should be if we look at what our ancestors ate. Like all other species, we have a species-specific diet that we should be eating.
We evolved from primates (records show that our primate ancestors were around for 23 million years). During our most athletic stage in evolution we were hunter-gatherers (for around 200,000 years). If we eat like primates (vegetarian) our bodies can be very healthy but we won't get the energy or muscled athleticism of a hunter-gatherer.
On our holidays we have two menus available: The Primate Menu and the Hunter Gatherer Menu. Our primate ancestors ate eggs, seeds, nuts, fruit, and non-starchy vegetables. No sugar, pulses or grains and few root vegetables or honey. Plus everything was raw and unprocessed. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate the same with the addition of meat and fish.
