Kenya Packing Tips
We provide towels and an efficient complimentary daily laundry service that returns clothes the next day.
We recommend:
- Two pairs running shoes (well-used)
- (If you are buying new shoes you may like to buy lightweight flat-soled shoes that are suitable for "bare-foot style" running - which you will be taught on the course)
- One pair aerobics/cross trainers (not mandatory)
- A water bottle if you prefer to drink out of a metal container, otherwise plastic ones are provided
- Five/six pairs of exercise clothes - shorts (not long pants) - tops (as light as possible) - Bra tops - Good quality socks e.g. 1000 mile
- One light cardigan or jumper
- 1-3 swim suits for sunbathing
- Two swimming costumes or tankinis
- One sarong or similar
- Two pairs of general summer shorts or stuff to burn around in
- One tight T-shirt, cycling top or rash-vest for swimming in (this is v. important for sun protection & to prevent chaffing - make sure it covers your shoulders)
- One light thing to sleep in
- Evening - going out stuff - guys may need collared shirts in some places
- Books - 1 big or 2 thin, unless you are an incredibly fast reader
- High factor sun block - all the time
- Hat
- Day sack is useful
- Insect repellent
- One pair goggles good quality
- One pair flippers, mask and snorkel (not mandatory - we have some)
- One beach bag/rucksack
- One pair sunglasses
- Alarm clock
- Stopwatch (or phone/watch with stopwatch) - for taking heartbeat. We do not recommed Heart Rate Monitors.
- One camera and lots of film (waterproof one can be fun)
- Torch (not mandatory)
- Diving log book (if you are keen to do Scuba Diving)
- Boxing gloves (6-10oz) - if you are sensitive to wearing other people's boxing gloves or are attending one of our longer courses, you may like to bring your own gloves (not mandatory but highly recommended!) These can be purchased at many sporting shops or on line at:
http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk - Kenyan Shillings for presents, drinks when you go out etc(15,000/= for 2 weeks). You can get this out of an ATM with a bank card on arrival at the airport.
- Medkit with plasters, disinfectant, anti-histamine cream and pills, after-sun cream, E45 cream, vaseline, antiseptic cream
Note: Flip-flops/ sandals will get dirty so don't bring special ones.
Girly stuff
- Leave-in-hair conditioner useful
- 1-3 Bikinis
- Evening - 1 pretty dress / going out outfit, 1-2 pairs of light long trousers or skirts good, long-sleeved shirts good (not mandatory) very casual and comfy, 1 pair clean shoes/sandals (not mandatory)
