Running & Barefoot Running

Running and specifically what we call barefoot running or wild running is an integral part of the Wildfitness course because it is an essential human movement and a skill that can be taught and improved.

Why run? – Running is one of the oldest and most fundamental of human movement patterns and running stimulates the metabolism and strengthens the body more than any other single movement.

Learning to run: is it necessary? -  Yes, a good running style can be taught and will immediately alleviate the knee and back injuries commonly associated with running.

“Barefoot Running” - When we talk about barefoot running we don’t mean you have to actually be barefoot. We call it wild running because it is a running style and you can still wear thin-soled shoes.

Learning to Barefoot Run - It is not as simple as chucking out your trainers. You need practice and coaching to change your old running habits.

What shoes do I need?  - You will need a transition shoe to run in before you can run injury-free, barefoot or even with the specialist barefoot shoes that offer no padding.  We recommend therefore that you bring a pair of commonly available gym shoes that don’t have excessive padding on the heel.

Barefoot running on the course – what you can expect:
- An introduction to barefoot running and a basic understanding of the theory & bio-mechanics
- 1-2-1 video running gait analysis
- Daily barefoot drills sessions some specifically for running and some general drills that will help with all movement
- Optional extra personal training sessions with trained 'barefoot running' coaches

On a 9 day course:  You will be made aware of exactly what you need to work on and will understand the theory behind it,  but most people require more coaching after this to master it.

On a 2 week course:  There will be enough time, feedback and coaching for some people to have mastered it, although many people still require coaching for consolidation.

On a 3 ½ week course:  Everyone makes a marked improvement on this course and should be in a position to continue the transition to barefoot running independently.
